About the Bariatric Surgery Team at UPMC Beacon Hospital

Our philosophy is based on the need for close and committed follow-up after your surgery. The best results are achieved when this is set within a structured and multidisciplinary approach. It is not just a question of getting the band fitted and adjusted. To maximise your chance of success we need to work with you and support you as you put in place a healthier eating pattern and lifestyle choices. During follow-up you will attend monthly or at a two-month interval and at each visit consult with your surgeon, nurse specialist and dietitian. When do I pay and what is included in the price?

There is a fee of €300 for your initial pre-operative consultation. This is separate from the surgery fee which will be discussed at your consultation, should you be a suitable candidate. The surgery fee will need to be paid before your operation and this single fee then covers your one year follow-up programme as well. If paying by cheque please make sure to allow 10 days for the cheque to clear. During your year of aftercare all your band adjustments are included in the price.

If additional pre-operative assessment is needed these are not included in your pricing. Your GP can usually organise for these to be done within the health service. Alternatively they can be arranged on a private patient basis. Please ask at the clinic for price details of any extra tests you might need before you agree to go ahead.
